Our book club is pretty laid back. We meet once a month and we don't shame anyone for not finishing the book. I have a class set of Kindles that I cannot convince the English department to even consider using, so I have repurposed them to be book club exclusive items. This way, the Kindles are being used continuously, and we are able to manage books for the club very easily and less expensively. With the Kindles, I can purchase 1 digital copy and push it out to 6 devices. Talk about a savings! With that in mind, we are really trying to not have to ask members to give money for the club because we don't want anyone to not come because of monetary reasons, so if you are willing, we have started a GoFundMe - please support us by donating! I also love that I can just push out the book and not have to get students to come in each time to pick it up.
Our first venture was with Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge.
On a positive note, we still had many club members show up even though they didn't read the whole book and we even gained 4 new members!
Our next read is going to be Across the Universe by Beth Revis. The majority of our members wanted to read this because of the upcoming movie Passengers that looks similar in plot even though it's not based on the book. I have actually read this series before, so I think we will get a better response from our club members. If our timing works, we should be able to go see the movie together as a club!
